At the Law Offices of Sandra M. Rosenbloom in Northfield, Illinois, representing clients in Cook County and Lake County, I believe the best way to represent a client is to help them avoid divorce court as much as possible. I encourage my clients to explore out of court, non-confrontational solutions to their legal issues, whether it is a marital dissolution or a post-decree modification of a settlement. Too often it is not the divorce itself, but rather the traditional approach of divorce litigation -- two lawyers eager to fight over every issue without consideration for what the fighting is really about--that rends families apart and ruins the extended relationships that enrich life. In the past fifteen years, I have focused solely on family and matrimonial law, and continue to search for creative solutions for each of my clients. I take the time to look at the entire family situation before I advise my clients. Each client's case is different; the circumstances, as well as the people involved deserve individualized attention, not a "cookie-cutter" approach of "one size fits all." Those of my clients who have had the opportunity to participate in Collaborative Law or Mediation have reported that they appreciated retaining the decision-making power and were relieved to discover that because of these processes they did not have to draw battle lines between family and friends. In addition to my legal education at Loyola University of Chicago, I have undergone significant post-graduate training in Collaborative Law and Mediation. I am, and remain, committed to furthering non-confrontational models of conflict resolution. I am a fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Chicago, a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals, and a member of the editorial staff of the Collaborative Review. I am also a member of the Mediation Council of Illinois, and previously served on its Board of Directors. Beginning in the Spring semester of 2007, I am honored that I will be an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University of Chicago Law School, where I will be teaching a course on alternative dispute resolution, emphasizing the collaborative approach. While many of my clients require me to engage in more traditional divorce representation because of their individual circumstances, I am often able to negotiate and settle some aspects and minimize the litigation in Cook County and Lake County divorce court, including custody and post-decree modifications.
